New Families — First-Time Registration
How much does it cost?
About $350/youth for the first year:
~$180 = Scouting.org (national) membership includes Pacific Skyline Council (Local) membership
$65 = Pack83 fee, and ~$100 for a uniform(see note below on possible exchanges).
Adult leader volunteers pay $0 — Pack 83 will reimburse your Scouting.org leader fee. Both parents are free, adult leader is a formal position that requires Scouting.org registration. For your first meeting, just show up, no fees necessary
How do I actually register?
Three steps:
(1) Register with Scouting.org — this is the national & council membership.
(2) Pay the $65 Pack 83 fee via PayPal, noting your scout’s name.
(3) Email registrations@pack83.org to join our Google Group for all Pack communications and WhatsApp group.
Do I need to buy a new uniform?
Not necessarily — check with your Den leader first. We run a uniform exchange, so you may be able to get one for less (and save a new purchase for later). Uniforms can be purchased from one of the Local Scout Shops in Foster City or Palo Alto
How much time per month does this take?
Aug through May, the respective Den’s meet once a month at someone’s house @weekday evening. The Pack meets at Central Multi-Use-Room (MUR) once a month @weekday evening. The activities are on the weekends: a few hours for derby, hikes, fishing, projects and longer for trips. Your child gets to know other kids, families, their homes and along the way we build our village to help raise all our kids together.
What dates should I register during?
Our program is active only during the school year, and in March 5th graders advance from Cub Scouts to Scouts. Your membership begins, and renews 12 months later, on the date of your Scouting.org registration. Any time is a fine time to register but good months include June thru September and March.
Pack, Den, Council, what do they mean?
Scouting.org has a great Organizational overview here: https://www.scouting.org/programs/cub-scouts/how-cub-scouting-is-organized/. Our Pack83 is under the Pacific Skyline Council in the Redwood District. Packs in neighboring cities like San Mateo, San Carlos all roll up in a similar hierarchy.
What if my scout is transferring from another pack?
Use your existing BSA ID when you register — no need to start over.
